Prospect Select’s Vero Beach Classic a big hit

VERO BEACH — Prospect Select’s 2013 Vero Beach Classic was a big hit for businesses in the surrounding area.

The economic impact of the June 7-11 tournament was felt throughout the county as 92 teams and their family members visited during the five day event, generating an estimated 3,800 room nights for area hotels and booming business for dining and shopping establishments, according to tournament director Richie Palmer.

“The staff at Vero Beach Sports Village was very accommodating by making sure the fields were always taken care of. Everyone throughout the complex was very helpful,” said Palmer.

“There are a lot of greats who have passed through here. The teams staying here had the ability to eat, walk around campus, and really get the spring training feeling by being able to watch other games going on and hang out as a team,” Palmer added.

“We were very pleased that Vero Beach Sports Village proved to be a facility that is able to attract quality, high-profile events like the Prospect Select Vero Beach Classic,” said Jeff Biddle, Director of Athletics and Marketing for Vero Beach Sports Village.

“The tournament had to be extended from a three-day to five-day event this year in order to accommodate the demand from teams who wanted to play. This tournament was also an example of how Vero Beach Sports Village created a win-win situation for the event organizers and for our county, which reaped the economic benefit such a large event in our community provided during a time of year that is traditionally slow for tourism,” Biddle explained.
