VERO BEACH — A preview segment of a new ballet with an original score will be presented at Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center on Saturday, June 22, at 7 p.m. by Vero Classical Ballet as part of their annual June concert, An Evening at the Ballet.
With original choreography by Amy & Barry Trammell and an original score by Ron Kramer, the Treasure Coast will be treated to a rare event. It is rare for several reasons: new ballet scores are uncommon, but new “story ballet” scores are extremely uncommon as the time and costs involved are prohibitive.
The composer of the score, Ron Kramer (formerly with the band Shanghai,) has developed the libretto and composed about 20% of the ballet music already.
The ballet is entitled “Music Box” and is the story of a young girl who receives a magical music box from her father and is soon whisked into a world that is both tragic and sublime.
Although Mr. Kramer is primarily from a pop/rock/jazz background, his music is evocative of a classical fantasy score with beautiful melodies, rhythmic complexity, and is written as an orchestral ballet score with the full range of orchestral instruments.
The choreography by husband/wife team Amy & Barry Trammell (directors of Vero Classical Ballet) will be based on classical ballet steps and will highlight the beautiful lines and grace of traditional ballet.
The lead female role will be danced by Haley Shields, a 15 year old freshman at Sebastian River High School and a student at Vero Classical Ballet.
Leading male roles will be danced by Jonathan Card, Samuel Card, and Barry Trammell. Also dancing in the ballet will be Elizabeth Card, Tabitha Card, Rylee Green, Jenna Laviolette, Veronica Monroy, and Alicia Polca, all students at VCB as well.
The pop song written by Ron Kramer with the accompanying music video that inspired the original ballet can be heard at the link below:
Tickets will be $10 for students and seniors and $12 for adults and can be purchased by calling (772) 360-8577.
