Dorothy C. Athanasakos, 90, died May 6, 2013, at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.
She was born in Berlin and lived in Vero Beach for 15 years, coming from St. Louis.
She retired in 1982 after 25 years of teaching in the St. Louis and Lindbergh school systems in Missouri.
She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Vero Beach, Friendship Club of Vero Beach and Plantation Golf Club.
She volunteered at Indian River Medical Center, knitting bootees and bonnets for newborns.
She was a graduate of Harris Teacher’s College with a master’s degree in elementary education.
Survivors include her daughter, Haidee Williams, of Vero Beach; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick J. Athanasakos; and sister, Brigitte Falkenhainer.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
Services will be private.
