State pushes for witness list, documents in Kaitlyn Hunt case

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – Assistant State Attorney Brian Workman, standing next to Sebastian River High student Kaitlyn Hunt in Judge Robert Pegg’s courtroom Tuesday morning, asked the court to ensure the State received the defense’s witness list and documents in advance of the expected trial.

“We don’t want to have a situation where we get dumped a witness list and a stack of documents or something like that on the eve of trial,” said Workman.

Hunt is the 18-year-old Sebastian River High School student accused of having a sexual relationship with a then-14-year-old female schoolmate. She faces two counts of third degree felony charges of lewd and lascivious battery on a child between the ages of 12 and 16.

Kaitlyn Hunt’s lawyer, Julia Graves, assured the court that the State would have the list by the docket call this Friday.

“We will probably have additional witnesses at a later date,” Graves said. “We’re still developing our discovery.”

The defense filed a motion for continuance and to waive Hunt’s appearance at docket calls until jury selection. Judge Pegg did not immediately rule on the motions.

Hunt did not speak during the court appearance Tuesday morning.
