INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — One hundred and sixty students from Indian River Charter High graduated at the Vero Beach High Performing Arts Center as the largest in the school’s history.
“This is the future face of America, they did not quit,” said Director Cynthia Trevino-Aversa, as she addressed the audience.
Aversa also urged students to “get a life” and live it.
The majority of students were headed to higher education and some to the military. This year’s salutatorian was Mariah Jacobs.
“Today is a day to dwell in memories,” said Jacobs.
Jacobs said she started to look forward to this day during her junior year.
“Here we are again tonight to turn the page once more,” said Jacobs.
The valedictorian was Rachel Koruo.
“All of us have a capacity to be lovers of learning,” said Koruo. Koruo encouraged all her classmates to travel and learn from different cultures.
“We have all lit our flames at Indian River Charter High School, now let’s go into the world and kindle them,” said Koruo.
After the graduates were introduced, they threw the caps in the air in celebration. Some threw it with their all, others gave it a gentle toss into the air a few feet.
Once the students left the stage, their lives would change forever, remarked one of the speakers.
“Your future begins today, enjoy every single minute of it,” said Aversa.
