Boat reported missing in Bahamas washes up in Indian River Shores

INDIAN RIVER SHORES — A fishing boat reported missing on a trip to West End in the Bahamas whose two crew members were rescued 30 miles off the Sebastian Inlet has now washed up on the beach in Indian River Shores.

The men, identified as Deon Lathem and Ted Lainge, were picked up off the coast of Florida Saturday by the cruise ship Carnival Dream after the Coast Guard received a distress call and located the ship by helicopter.

The Carnival Dream, which had left Cape Canaveral earlier in the day for a seven-night Caribbean cruise, diverted to pick up the men, gave them food and drink, and carried out a medical evaluation. The men were subsequently transferred to a Coast Guard cutter.

The disabled fishing boat, the TeraBite, subsequently washed up on the shore in front of the Bermuda Bay community in Indian River Shores. At nightfall Wednesday, the Coast Guard was still trying to decide what to do with the boat.
