Blockbuster is closing its doors

VERO BEACH — Blockbuster of Vero Beach, located at 1918 US 1, is sad to announce that after 21 years, it is going out of business.

“We want to thank all of our customers and our wonderful employees who have been a part of our “rentertainment” business for so many years. We particularly want to thank those extremely loyal customers who are continuing to do business with us to this day. We are sorry to have to leave you,” said Chas Averbook, franchise owner of the Vero Blockbuster location.

“As most know, over the last few years, many new types of competing ways to watch movies have been developed, including the internet, satellite services, cable, and video vending machines. We have held on as long as we could,” Averbook added.

“On the plus side, we are happy to say that we have found an excellent company to take over our location. Leaders Furniture is a family-owned retailer of casual indoor and outdoor furniture and accessories.

They have been in business for more than 40 years, and their new Vero Beach store will be their 20th Florida location. They are looking forward to becoming an important part of the Vero Beach community,” explained Averbook.

“The Fort Pierce Blockbuster store is still operating in Sabal Palm Plaza and will continue doing so as long as possible, hopefully for many more years. Customers of our Vero store will still be able to rent or place special orders at the Fort Pierce store in person, by mail, or by calling them at (772) 489-0801.

A going out of business sale is in progress at the Vero location only, including all movies, games, and store fixtures, with very discounted prices.
