Marilyn Joyce Johnson, 87, Vero Beach

Marilyn Joyce Johnson, 87, died May 12, 2013, at her home.

She was born in Moline, Ill., and had been a summer resident of Vero Beach since 1935 before moving to Vero Beach in 2004, coming from Conyers, Ga.

She volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program.

She was named Volunteer of the Year in 1985 by Gov. Joe Frank Harris of Georgia.

In 1991, she was a delegate to the World Southeast Conference of the United Methodist Church in Singapore.

She also served as the state president of the United Methodist Women’s organization in Georgia.

Survivors include her husband, Vernon, of Vero Beach; son, William Blackman, of Quincy; daughter, Barbara Walding, of Conyers; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Berkeley Blackman Jr.; and son, Charles Blackman.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. May 15 in the Chapel of Trinity Episcopal Church, Vero Beach.

Burial will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery, Vero Beach.
