Free Electrical 101 summer class has openings

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — An Electrical 101 summer class, offered through a collaboration effort between the nonprofit organizations – Feed the Lambs Enrichment Program and Habitat for Humanity – still has a few openings.

The new 10-week class, which begins June 1, is held on Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. to Noon. There is both a classroom component, from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Habitat for Humanity complex on US 1 in Vero Beach and hands-on practical experience until Noon at one of the Habitat build sites.

The program, which teaches basic electrical practices, is offered at no charge to young men and women, ages 16 to 20. Classes are taught by licensed electrical professionals and teachers, and a set of basic electrical tools are provided to students so that they may further their careers.

In addition to learning basic skills, eligible students may continue through a coordinated apprentice program at Indian River State College.

Anyone interested should apply soon as the class size is limited to 10 people.
