Owner of Vero Beach gas station arrested for selling drugs

VERO BEACH – The owner of a Vero Beach gas station has been arrested, accused of selling synthetic cannabinoid (Spice) Wednesday at his business.

According to an Indian River County Sheriff’s Office affidavit, Sunil “Sonny” Ghay, 50, of Vero Beach, was arrested for selling Spice after he sold the drug to a confidential source at the Sunoco Gas Station at the 8400 block of State Road 60.

The informant, according to the affidavit, said he/she would go to the store and purchase the drug. Ghay would either have it on him or would go to his car and retrieve the drug.

At a pre-determined location, according to the Sheriff’s Office, a buy was setup to have the source purchase 10 packages, equaling 4 grams of Spice, for $200.

The affidavit stated that the source and an undercover officer met Ghay at his store for the buy. Ghay took the money and left a brown paper bag behind the counter. Later, after Ghay left, the source picked up the bag and met law enforcement at the predetermined location.

In the bag, the Sheriff’s Office stated, were three packages of suspected spice.

Every time Ghay made a sale the source noticed he rang it up as an item, according to the affidavit.

The substance was determined to be the drug Spice by the Indian River State College Regional Crime Lab.

On Wednesday, May 8, members of the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office arrested Ghay at the Sunoco Gas Station.

Ghay faces charges of the sale of Synthetic Cannabinoid (Spice). No bond has been set.
