VERO BEACH — National Association of Letter Carriers’ Food Drive is set for Saturday, May 11. Harvest Food & Outreach Center will once again be a recipient of donations and has put out a call to the community for volunteers to help sort donated food at the Vero Beach Post Office at 2050 13th Ave. in Vero Beach from Noon to 5 p.m. that day.
This is the largest food drive in our community. It requires many helping hands to help sort and box the donated food so that Harvest can distribute it to hundreds of struggling families in Indian River County.
Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and wear closed toe shoes. Sunscreen, hats that shade the face, a folding chair, and snacks are recommended.
If interested in volunteering, please contact Kristin Sposato at (772) 559-2240 or email [email protected].
Harvest Food & Outreach Center, founded in 2003 by Austin and Ginny Hunt in Indian River County, provides a holistic, multi-component approach that provides a hand up to those living at or under the 200% federal poverty level.
The organization’s unique model offers a comprehensive, three-tiered approach to lifting people out of poverty through a Hunger Relief Program that includes an Emergency Food Box and Cost Share Grocery Program, a Crisis Center which together stabilizes people in crisis through counseling and active referrals to services, Education and Employment Opportunity Programs that address the source of the problem and provides long term solutions to those in need.
