VERO BEACH — The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County (HSVBIRC) is announcing a contest that’s more exciting than lotto.
It’s the “Give Away a Spay a Day in May” drawing. Every day this May, The Humane Society will be giving away a FREE spay or neuter surgery to help lucky Indian River County dogs and cats.
So what are you waiting for when you could be signing up right now? Indian River County residents can register on the shelter’s website at www.HSVB.org.
Individuals without internet access can call (772) 388-3331 ext. 18.
Winners will be able to use the surgery for their own dog or cat, give the surgery to a fellow Indian River County family member, friend or neighbor, or donate the surgery back to the shelter’s public Animal Wellness Clinic to help a pet parent facing financial hardship.
“Preventing unwanted litters of puppies and kittens is the greatest way we can help the pets in our community, but we decided the best way to spread this message is by creating a fun event that would generate excitement,” Director of Animal Care Maria Ramirez explained.
According to Ramirez, spaying and neutering also prevents some cancers and life-threatening infections in dogs and cats and can decrease undesirable behaviors such as aggression and marking territory.
In addition to getting a free spay or neuter surgery for their pet, winners of the “Give Away a Spay a Day in May” contest will be recognized on the shelter’s website and Facebook page.
The “Give Away a Spay a Day in May” drawing is open to Indian River County residents only. Certain restrictions apply.
The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the animals of Indian River County.
Donations to the shelter’s spay/neuter efforts can be made by calling (772) 388-3826.
