James Michael Parrella, 65, died April 23, 2013, at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach.
He was born in upstate New York and lived in Vero Beach for 40 years.
Before retirement, he worked for the Indian River County Sherriff’s Department for 15 years and the Department of Corrections for 10 years.
He was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include his companion, Barbara DeLuca, of Vero Beach; sister, JoAnne Burgess, of Georgia; and mother, Bertha Parrella, of Vero Beach.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches, P.O. Box 2000, Boys Ranch, FL 32064.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon April 27 at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church.
Interment will follow in Crestlawn Cemetery, and a celebration of life will follow at his home.
