Robert “Bob” Francis Dempsey, 89, died April 20, 2013, at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.
He was born in Bronx, N.Y., and moved to Vero Beach in 1983 from Glen Ridge, N.J.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Neuendorf “De 200.”
He retired as an assignment bureau supervisor from New Jersey Bell Telephone Co. after 41 years of service.
He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6255 in Cedar Grove, N.J., and Knights of Columbus Council 1277.
He was a past president and life member of the Vero Beach Telephone Pioneers.
He graduated from Power Memorial High School Class of 1941 in New York.
Survivors include his cousins, Grace Myers, Cindy Cantone and Paul Hitchcock, all of Montrose, Pa., and Frank Hanrahan, of Cary, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve Dempsey, in 2006.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. April 25 at Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. April 26 at St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach.
Hugh Moriarty Funeral Home, Montclair, N.J., will handle final services and interment at Mount Hebron Cemetery in Upper Montclair, N.J.
