Music scholarships available for talented IRC children and youth

VERO BEACH  — If your child loves music and singing and is in grades 2-12, here is a great opportunity.

Quail Valley Charities just granted scholarship money to the acclaimed Atlantic Children’s Chorale (ACC.) With the new funds, this exceptional choir can now accept 20 new deserving children and youth within Indian River County, regardless of their financial situation.

The new positions are open on both the preparatory choir and the concert choir. They expect to grant all scholarships for next fall during the months of April and May.

Auditions will be on Saturday, April 27, at 1 p.m. at the Community Church choir room (north side of sanctuary building; 1901 23rd St. in Vero Beach.) Additional auditions will be held at the end of the Spring Concert, “Sound for a better world,” on Sunday, May 5, at 4 p.m. and Saturday, May 11, at 10 a.m.

Students and families interested in auditioning will get free admission to the concert. Auditions are simple. Students don’t need to prepare any specific material to attend.

The Atlantic Children’s Chorale was founded in the fall of 2005 by Dr. José Daniel Flores, Community Church Music Director, with the goal of performing challenging choral repertoire at the highest artistic levels.

ACC has established a tradition of excellent choral performances in the Treasure Coast and beyond. Tours have included the Denver, CO prestigious “Sing a Mile High Choral Festival,” the Florida regional conference of the American Choral Directors Association at the Seminole State College in Lake Mary, FL., and tours to Florida universities in Gainesville and Tallahassee.

The renowned program includes a preparatory choir for children from 2nd to 5th grade and a concert choir for students from 6th to 12th grade.

ACC has proven to be a life-transforming experience for the participating students. They just performed Mozart’s Requiem in collaboration with the Atlantic Symphonic Chorus and a professional orchestra, which received stellar reviews.
