County man flees, crashes vehicle after deputies serve search warrant

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — An Indian River County man has been arrested after he fled from authorities Wednesday when they attempted to serve a search warrant at his south Indian River County home.

Authorities with both the Indian River County and the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Offices chased Travis L. Jackson,33 , of the 2100 block of 5th Ct. SW, Vero Beach, which ended with a crash. Jackson was taken to the Indian River Medical Center for treatment.

According to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office arrest affidavit for Jackson, Jackson pulled up to his home as detectives attempted to serve the warrant and fled the scene in his Dodge pickup.

Jackson drove the truck through his backyard and the backyards of the nearby residents before coming back to the road, narrowly avoiding hitting law enforcement vehicles. According to the St. Lucie Sheriff’s Office, Jackson crashed his vehicle in a ditch and attempted to run away but officers were able to apprehend him.

Officers searched the nearby wooded area after witnesses told them Jackson had discarded items there during the chase. Authorities were able to recover three boxes believed to be Jackson’s, which contained more than a half-pound of cocaine each.

Authorities also found nearly $5,500 cash in Jackson’s pocket, according to the affidavit.

Jackson faces charges that include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, evidence tampering, resisting an officer, fleeing and eluding with disregard of safety to persons or property, and trafficking in cocaine.
