Marion Gann DeGrove, 85, died April 8, 2013, in Punta Gorda.
She was born in Montgomery, Ala.
She was the first woman to graduate from the University of Alabama with a bachelor of science in physics in 1949.
She went on to teach high school physics and then headed the Department of Bioenvironmental Services for the city of Jacksonville for 16 years.
Survivors include her children, Glenda DeGrove Taylor, Mark DeGrove, Sharon DeGrove Bishop and Carol DeGrove McDonald; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Henry D. “Buddy” DeGrove III.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. April 10 in the chapel of The Community Church of Vero Beach.
