Edward Ruggiero Spallina, 89, died April 4, 2013 at Grace Rehabilitation Center, Vero Beach.
He was born in New York City and lived in Fort Pierce for 23 years, moving to Vero Beach in 2012.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in education from New York University in New York City.
He was an Army Air Forces veteran, having served during World War II.
He was a recipient of the Bronze Star and Distinguished Flying Cross.
Prior to retirement, he was an industrial arts teacher and department chairman in the Lake Land School District, Shrub Oak, N.Y..
He attended St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach.
He was a member and past president of the Italian-American Club, Mahopac, N.Y.; and a member of the Mahopac Golf Club, Mahopac, N.Y.; Meadow Wood Golf Club, Fort Pierce; and the Land Harbor Golf Club, Linville, N.C.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Faust Spallina, of Vero Beach; sons, Edward Spallina Jr., of New Fairfield, Conn., Paul Spallina, of Fort Myers, and Joseph Spallina, of Carmel, N.Y.; daughter, Annamarie Spallina, of New York City; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. April 7 at Strunk Funeral Home Vero Beach.
A prayer vigil will be at 4 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. April 8 at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach.
Interment will be in Rose Hills Cemetery, Putnam Valley, N.Y.
