Orval Lee Shelton, 86, Vero Beach

Orval Lee Shelton, 86, died March 25, 2013.

He was born in Fairfield Township, Hamilton, Ohio, and lived in Vero Beach for 67 years.

He volunteered for the Army Air Corps and was inducted into the Cadet Corps.

After high school he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, later the Army Air Corps Reserves and in 1948, he joined the newly formed Air Force Reserve.

He formed Shelton Construction Co. in 1948 in Vero Beach.

As a prime mover in the Junior Chamber of Commerce, he managed the building of Jaycee Park.

He was a member of The Veterans Club, Italian American Club, Eagles, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his son, David Shelton, of St. Cloud; daughters, Sharon Shelton Gorry, of Vero Beach and Jade Shelton Cole, of McBee, S.C.; stepdaughter, Wanda Wilson Ryerson, of Vero Beach; and stepson, Bobby Wilson, of Greenville, S.C.; brother, Wallace M. Shelton, of Vero Beach; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Martin Wilson Shelton.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. April 13 at Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach.

Interment will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery in Vero Beach.

A celebration of life will be at 12:30 p.m. at the Vero Beach Veterans Club in Vero Beach.
