John Peter “Papa Pete” Spilka, 84, Vero Beach

John Peter “Papa Pete” Spilka, 84, died March 25, 2013, at VNA Hospice House.

He was born in Erie, Pa., and lived in Vero Beach for nine years, coming from Las Vegas.

He was an Army veteran, having served in the Korean War.

Before retirement, he worked as a fiberglass fabricator and photographer.

He was a member of the Coastal Community Church, where he volunteered as a clown during church festivals.

Survivors include his daughters, Debi Spilko, of Erie, Tanya Goldsmith, of Vero Beach and Stephanie Rindosh, of Dubois, Pa.; sons, Greg Spilka and Jeff Spilko, both of Hendersonville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Elida Hoffman.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. March 30 at 1275 30th Ave., Vero Beach.
