Andrew Fisher, 92, died March 15, 2013, at VNA/Hospice House in Vero Beach
He was born in Richmond, Va., and lived in Vero Beach for 30 years, coming from Nassau, N.Y.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Amherst College, Amherst, Mass., and his master’s degree in business administration from Harvard Business School, Boston.
He worked at The New York Times for 25 years, serving as executive vice president in charge of daily operations for his last five years at the newspaper.
In 1970, he formed a partnership, Chatham Holdings, a company that owned the weekly newspaper The Chatham Courier, Chatham, N.Y., and which sold newsprint to newspapers throughout the northeast.
He became publisher of the Wilmington News Journal, Wilmington, Del., from 1975 to 1976.
He continued operating Chatham Holdings and became a business consultant to numerous corporations throughout the New York Capital District.
He negotiated the sale of several newspapers, including the Wilmington News Journal.
He was elected President of Albany Medical College in 1974 and served on several boards, including those of Albany Medical College, Russell Sage College, and Norstar Bank.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Cornelia Johnson Fisher, of Vero Beach; daughter, Carolyn Fisher, of Springfield, Mass.; son, Andrew R. Fisher, of Delmar, N.Y.; sister, Frances Merwin, of Columbia, S.C.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Peter R. Fisher; and sister, Juliet Firman.
