INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Elizabeth Mattis-Namgyel, a Buddhist teacher and author who leads weekend retreats in the U.S. and throughout Europe, will speak at Unity Center of Vero Beach, 950 43rd Ave., on March 22, at 7 p.m.
This event is free and open to the public.
This is Elizabeth’s 4th visit to Indian River County where she will engage the audience in an inspiring and participatory discussion entitled “Buddhist Wisdom in Challenging Times.”
What does it mean to be a responsible global citizen? How do we respond to the struggles we experience in our mind and the world around us without getting overwhelmed?
The skillful methods of the Buddha’s wisdom address these very questions. Elizabeth will share her reflections and experiences on this topic in what will be a lively night of presentation and discussion.
“When one meets Elizabeth, the fruit of her practice is immediately evident in her clarity, warmth, humility, and willingness to share,” said a past participant from the Treasure Coast about Elizabeth’s presentation and retreats.
Elizabeth Mattis-Namgyel has studied and practiced the Buddha dharma for twenty-seven years under the guidance of her teacher and husband Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche.
She is the retreat master of Samten Ling in Crestone, CO, and spent over six years in retreat.
She holds a degree in anthropology and an M.A. in Buddhist studies. She teaches throughout the U.S. and Europe.
Her 2010 book, “The Power of an Open Question,” was hailed by critics as “bold, playful, and invigorating.”
Copies of Elizabeth’s book will be available for purchase.

We often find ourselves struggling with our inner lives of thoughts and emotions as they relate to the pain and uncertainty of life around us. How does the mind find rest at ease with its world?
