Emerson Center closes out 2013 Celebrated Speakers Series March 16

VERO BEACH — Individual tickets remain for $65 each to see the final speaker of the Emerson Center’s Celebrated Speakers Series. The season ends on March 16 with James A. Baker, III.

Performances are held at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.; however, the 4 p.m. has been sold out.

Baker served in senior government positions from 1975 to 1992 under three U.S. presidents and led campaigns for Presidents Ford, Reagan, and Bush in five consecutive presidential elections.

Baker’s record of public service began in 1975 as Undersecretary of Commerce to President Ford. From 1981 to 1985, he was White House Chief of Staff to President Reagan, and subsequently became the 67th Secretary of the Treasury, as well as chairman of the President’s Economic Policy Council under Reagan.

Finally, Baker served as Secretary of State from January 1989 through August 1992 under President George H.W. Bush. A native Houstonian, Baker received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1991 and has received many other awards for distinguished public service.

He published his memoir, Work Hard, Study…and Keep Out of Politics! Adventures and Lessons from an Unexpected Public Life, in 2006.

The Emerson Center, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach, is conveniently located at 1590 27th Ave. on the SE corner of 16th St. and 27th Ave., has more than 300 parking spaces, an auditorium that seats over 800 people in comfortable padded seating, offers unrestricted views from all seats, and professional state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems.
