VERO BEACH — The Indian River Symphonic Association will present a concert by the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields on Sunday, March 17.
The Academy was founded in 1959 by Sir Neville Marriner and takes its name from the London church that was its early base. Technically, it is a large chamber orchestra rather than a symphonic orchestra, and it customarily performs without a conductor.
The Academy performs some 100 concerts around the world each year. It is renowned for its polished and refined sound, rooted in outstanding musicianship.
This concert will feature performances by an American cellist, Alisa Weilerstein, and by pianist Inon Barnatan. Ms. Weilerstein has performed with major orchestras throughout the U.S. and Europe, with conductors including Martin Alsop, Daniel Barenboim, Paavo Jarvi, Loren Maazel, and Zubin Mehta.
Mr. Barnatan, who moved to the U.S. in 2006, has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra and the Houston, Philadelphia, and San Francisco Symphony orchestras, as well as major symphony orchestras throughout Europe.
The evening’s performance will include:
Benjamin Britten – Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge, Op. 10
Franz Haydn – Cello Concerto in C
J. S. Bach – Piano Concerto No. 1 in D Minor
Franz Haydn – Symphony No 44 in E Minor
The concert will be presented at the Community Church of Vero Beach and will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are available for $50.
