Heritage Center receives gift from Mrs. Barbara Becker Hurley

VERO BEACH — The Heritage Center is very pleased to announce a recent gift of $25,000 from Mrs. Barbara Becker Hurley.

Mrs. Hurley’s ongoing support of the Heritage Center has allowed many projects to be completed in the past three years including: painting the interior and exterior of the building, refinishing the original heart pine floors, replacing the stage curtains, restoration work on the 56 wood frame windows in the building, and making the Indian River Citrus Museum more visitor friendly.

This most recent gift will be used for ongoing restoration and preservation projects to include updating the kitchen area.

Mrs. Hurley’s most generous gift was the donation of $100,000 to establish the Richard E. and Lillian M. Becker Family Foundation Endowment Fund for the Heritage Center.

Built as Vero Beach’s original Community Building in 1935, the facility requires constant care and attention to maintain its historic character.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the building must be maintained within certain standards and requirements.

The Heritage Center and Indian River Citrus Museum are, indeed, fortunate to have such a generous benefactor as Mrs. Hurley. Her efforts to challenge others to support historic preservation in Vero Beach and Indian River County is truly commendable.
