Joyce M. Carlson, 72, Vero Beach

Joyce M. Carlson, 72, died Feb. 24, 2013, at her home.

She was born in Bucyrus, Ohio, and moved to Vero Beach in 1978, coming from her birthplace.

She began working for Indian River County in 1985 and served as the former director of Human Services.

She was a board member of the Treasure Coast Homeless Services Council and served as board president since 2006.

She served as panel chairman of the Indian River United Way Citizens Review Process for many years and was a lead staff member of the Children’s Services Advisory Committee of Indian River County.

Survivors include her husband, Edwin J. Carlson, of Vero Beach; son, Chuck Bresler, of Bloomdale, Ohio; daughters, Terri Virost, of San Antonio and Kim Jones, of Bloomdale, Ohio; mother, Frances “Aldora” Johnston, of Wayne, Ohio; stepdaughters, Nancy Cox, of Kirkland, Wash., and Amy Kredlo, of Raymond, Wash.; sister, Barbara Sanderson, of Marion, Ohio; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Michael L. Johnston; and father, Ross Clifford Johnston.

No services are scheduled at this time.
