James D. Secord, 88, died Feb. 20, 2013, at Indian River Medical Center.
He was born in Waltham, Mass., and had been a resident of Vero Beach for more than 20 years, coming from Cape Cod, Mass.
He was a veteran of the Navy, having served during World War II. He graduated from Bentley College in Waltham, Mass.
He began his career with GE through its business training course.
After graduation, he worked as a traveling auditor.
In 1954, he was named plant accountant, and then plant manager for the GE Tube Plant in Scranton, Pa.
He then was appointed to the cost of decision making team, and was advanced to the division planner in the GE Plant in Owensboro, Ky.
He later transferred to the General Learning Division of GE, a multimillion dollar collaboration between Time Life and GE, and became vice president for the Silver Burdett Publishing division of the enterprise.
He retired from Silver Burdett in 1988.
He was a member of Christ By the Sea United Methodist Church, Vero Beach.
Survivors include his daughter, Nancy Guckenberger, of Sebastian; son, Ronald Secord, of Rochester Hills, Mich.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Secord in 2005; and his brother, Kenneth Secord.
