Southeast Florida District #1 in U.S. Power Squadrons

SOUTHEAST FLORIDA — Southeast Florida’s District 8 of the United States Power Squadrons has been honored with the “Distinguished District Civic Service Award.”

This identifies it as the top district in the nation according to a BoatUS/ United States Power Squadrons analysis. The recognition is the most important Power Squadron award and names the district top among the thirty-three in the nation.

The district’s accomplishments included extraordinary support for its squadrons in providing: public boating courses, community involvement, service, vessel safety checks done in cooperation with the United States Coast Guard, and maintenance of its area’s nautical chart data for the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA.)

In addition, the district led its squadrons in important community outreach programs. Its area includes fourteen squadrons serving towns from the city of Sebastian on the Treasure Coast, down through Miami to Key West.

The award presentation was made at the Power Squadrons’ national meeting in Jacksonville, FL to District 8 Commander Jack Doyle by National Chief Commander John Alter and BoatUS Foundation’s Asst. Director of Boating Safety Ted Sensenbrenner.
