VERO BEACH — Impact 100 is in full swing with their recruitment of new members and renewal of current members before the deadline for 2013 membership enrollment ends on March 1.
The all-women’s philanthropic group has grown each year with leaps and bounds since its inception in 2010, increasing the membership each year and doubling the original number of members in 2012 to over 400.
In four years, the 100% volunteer group has donated over $1.2 million to deserving non-profits in Indian River County. Every penny from the membership dues is given in grants.
“What this organization does is give significant grants, and we can’t do it without having members who donate $1,000 each every year. We’d like to maintain our membership at or above 400 women, thus ensuring the continuation of four $100,000 grants,” explained President Jane Coyle.
It’s called collective giving, and here’s how it works: each member donates $1,000 a year, and that money is pooled together to make up the $100,000 grants.
“Perhaps you’ve heard about the good that has unfolded from Impact 100 grants: we were the first to recognize the need for pollution answers in the Indian River Lagoon; helped feed hungry children; built buildings; bought buildings; furnished school buildings; created an infant suite; provided training for teachers to implement reading programs; provided transition programs for teens; upgraded dental programs for low income recipients; trained lay counselors; and funded a network system for an enhanced learning environment in high schools,” Coyle added.
“Without each and every one of the current 416 members, this would not have been possible. Grant panels are currently in the process of evaluating some terrific proposals for grants. Site visits will soon take place, financial status as to sustainability will be examined, and recommendations will be made to the leadership team,” said Coyle.
Focus groups include: Family; Health and Wellness; Education; and Enrichment and Environment.
Of all the things that are happening within the organization, none is more important than the renewal of past members and the recruitment of new members. The number of members dictates the amount of giving.
