VERO BEACH — On Sunday, Feb. 17, the Indian River Symphonic Association will present a concert by the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra. This group is recognized as one of the top regional orchestras in the United States, performing more than 150 concerts each year.
Recognizing the significance of our cultural collaboration with the city of Naples, the Vero Beach City Council has issued a proclamation declaring Feb. 17 to be “Vero Beach-Naples Symphony Day.”
Conducting the orchestra will be Maestro Thomas Wilkins, who is currently the Music Director of the Omaha Symphony and the Principal Guest Conductor of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.
Maestro Wilkins has led major orchestras throughout the United States, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Atlanta Symphony, and the National Symphony, to name just a few.
Howard Shelley will be the featured piano soloist and will perform Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. Mr. Shelley, a graduate of the Royal College of Music (UK,) has performed, broadcast, and recorded with such noted conductors as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Pierre Boulez, Sir Adrian Bolt, and Sir Neville Marriner.

Bernstein – Candide Suite
Rachmaninov – Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini
Dvorak – Symphony No. 8 in G Major
The concert will be presented at the Community Church of Vero Beach and will begin at 7:30 p.m.
