Zachary Cole Blades, 12, died Jan. 30, 2013, at Arnold Palmer Hospital, Orlando.
He was born in Murfreesboro, Tenn., and lived in Vero Beach for nine years, coming from his birthplace.
He was a student at Vero Beach Elementary School and a member of the Boy Scouts Troop 558 and Pack 530, and was associated with the Indian River Soccer Association.
He was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include his mother, Michele Blades of Vero Beach; father and stepmother, Monte and Melissa Blades of Vero Beach; maternal grandmother, Mary Tenbus of Vero Beach; and paternal grandmother and stepgrandfather, Peggy and John Powers of Rockford, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Robert Tenbus; and paternal grandfather, Charles Blades.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, 240 22nd Ave., Vero Beach, FL 32962.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 5 at the Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home with a Mass of the Christian burial at 10 a.m. Feb. 6 at St. Helen Catholic Church.
