Alexander Louis Mazzarella, 85, died Jan. 31, 2013, at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach.
He was born in New York City and lived in Vero Beach for 41 years, coming from Huntington Station, N.Y.
He was a New York City police officer for 20 years before retiring as a detective in 1971.
He served in the Navy during World War II.
He was a life member of the Vero Beach Elks Lodge 1774.
Survivors include his sons, Mark Mazzarella, of Vero Beach and Steve Mazzarella, of Issaquah, Wash.; brother, Michael Mazzarella, of Fort Lee, N.J.; sister, Rose Deweese, of Fontana, Calif.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marge Mazzarella; and sister, Jean Price.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Chapel, 941 18th St., Vero Beach, FL 32960 for its Missions Fund.
A celebration of life will be at 4 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach, with the Rev. James Gallagher of Calvary Chapel officiating.
