Two hospitalized after drive-by shooting in Gifford

GIFFORD — Two people have been taken to the hospital following a late-night drive-by shooting outside Winston’s Place, a restaurant and pool hall on 45th Street in Gifford, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.

The victims, who have not been identified, sustained several small-caliber gunshot wounds and were taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center. Their injuries were determined to be non-life threatening, the Sheriff’s Office said.

According to the victims, they were standing with two other friends outside the business shortly after midnight when a vehicle slowly pulled up and a passenger fired numerous shots out the open window into the group of friends.

The vehicle is described as a “newer” model four-door car turquoise in color. The shooter was seated behind the driver and is described as a black male. The vehicle drove off after the shots were fired.
