North County Aquatic Center offers lifeguard class

VERO BEACH — The Indian River County Recreation Department would like to inform the public that the North County Aquatic Center will be hosting a Red Cross Lifeguard Class.

The first session will be Feb. 11- 13, 18-20, and 26-28 from 4-7 p.m.

The second session will be March 4-7 and 11-14 from 4–7 p.m.

The cost is $200, which includes books, mask, and certification fees.

Registration and payment will be accepted once the candidate has met the following prerequisites.

Minimum age is 15 years old.

Must be able to swim 300 yards continuously.

Must be able to tread water for two minutes using only legs.

Must be able to swim 20 yards, retrieve a 10 lb. brick from 12 ft. of water and return within 1:40.
