Calvin Arnold Bethel Sr., 78, Vero Beach

Calvin Arnold Bethel Sr., 78, died Jan. 15, 2013, at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach.

He was born in Eleuthera, Bahamas, and lived in Indian River County since 1952.

Before retirement, he was self-employed in the citrus industry.

He was a member of Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth H. Bethel, of Vero Beach; sons, Tommy Pennamon, Stephen Pennamon, Calvin Remell Bethel and Calvin A. Bethel Jr., all of Vero Beach, and Anthony Jerome Simmons, of Gifford; daughters, Carlette Bethel McCarter and Cheryl Lynne Bethel, both of Tampa, Drueisilla Ann Griffin, of Vero Beach and Sharonda Bethel, of Atlanta; brother, Cebric Bethel, of the Bahamas; sister, Zelma Bethel, of the Bahamas; 44 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Emma Lou Bethel; brothers, Haddock Bethel, Anthony Bethel, Chauncey Bethel and Walter Bethel; and sister, Shirley Willis.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Jan. 25 at Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, Gifford.

A service will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 26 at the church, with burial to follow in Crestlawn Cemetery in Vero Beach.

Arrangements are by Stone Brothers Funeral Chapel in Vero Beach.
