Sebastian Elks holds annual charity ball Jan. 26

SEBASTIAN — The Sebastian Elks will hold their annual Harry-Anna Charity Ball on Jan. 26. The Harry-Anna Charity Ball is a fundraising event to raise money for the Florida Elks Children’s Therapy Services and the Florida Elks Youth Camp programs.

Here is some background on the Harry-Anna Trust Fund.

The Harry-Anna Trust Fund was established in 1951. Harry, an Elk, and Anna Miller, his wife, donated their hotel building in Umatilla to the Florida Elks to be converted into the Harry-Anna Crippled Children’s Home which, in time, became the Florida Elks Children’s Therapy Services program.

The Elks Children’s Therapy Services provides physical and occupational therapy to families who do not have access to these types of services. The therapists employed by the Elks are licensed to practice in the state of Florida.

They use 23 mobile units, purchased through donations, treating children at their homes throughout most of the 67 Florida counties, regardless of their ability to pay.

The Florida Elks Youth Camp, located in Marion County, opened in 1991 to all children of Florida and is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to enriching and developing the lives of children. There are team building skills and recreational equipment which are used in a caring and social setting where the good of the child is always the priority.

The Florida Elks Youth Camp is one of the finest of its kind in this country. It is open to the children and grandchildren of Elks for a moderate price, but children who are unable to pay are not turned away.

The theme of the Jan. 26 Harry-Anna Charity Ball this year is The Love Boat. The semi-formal ball will start at 5:30 p.m. with a cash bar for cocktails.

Dinner will commence at 6:30 p.m.

The menu this year will be chicken Oscar, green beans, baked sweet potato, salad, rolls, and individual cheesecakes for dessert.

Music will be provided by Doug Caple.

There will also be a ‘drink of the day’ special to raise funds. Anyone who donates to the Harry-Anna Trust Fund will be able to keep the glass as a souvenir.

The tickets, a $15 donation per person, are available at the Sebastian Elks Lodge Monday through Saturday after 3 p.m.

The lodge is located at 731 S. Fleming St.
