YMCA Raise the Roof campaign

STUART — Since 1977, the YMCA of the Treasure Coast has been providing services like youth sports, fitness, and swim lessons to Stuart and the surrounding communities.

Through the years, the Y has been there to nurture and help families grow in their health and well-being. Now, the Y is asking the community for help.

The roof of their flagship location on Monterey Rd. is severely deteriorating and in need of replacing. This deterioration is caused by faulty installation from a roofing company that has since gone out of business.

Unfortunately, the Y’s insurance company has denied their claim to replace the damaged metal roofs due to the defective installation.

With a need greater than they can financially support, the Y has launched the “Raise the Roof” capital campaign in order to obtain the funds needed for the repair.

The goal for phase 1 of the roof repair project is $75,000. The front entryway roof is in the worst shape, and therefore, was chosen to be fixed first during a multi-year appeal to replace or repair all roofs at the Monterey Rd. location.

The fitness center roof is the next area slated for fixing.

Crossroads Architecture has donated their time and resources in providing the Y with a new roof design, budget figures, and guidance in major structural decisions prior to the project being bid out to local contractors.

The Y hopes to have the funds raised by the end of February, 2013.

So far, they have raised about $45,750 towards the project. The project start date is set for early March, and they hope to have phase 1 of the repairs completed by May, 2013.

“Many members, small businesses, and local residents have already made donations to our roof campaign, but we are only 61% to goal. We still have a way to go. For the sake of the children and families that we serve, we would like this completed before our rainy season hits,” said Senior Program Director Elisha Stoecklin.

Donations of $500 and more will be recognized with a commemorative brick paver that will be displayed in the front entrance of the Y. Donors will be able to choose their own wording for their brick.
