Billie Laughland Hammill, 90, died Jan. 15, 2013, at the VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach.
She was born in Pittsburgh and lived in Vero Beach since 1924.
Before retirement, she was a public health nurse for 27 years at the Indian River County Health Department, earning Nurse of the Year Honors in 1984.
Previously, she was involved in various areas of nursing.
She served in the Army Nursing Corps for two years.
She graduated from Vero Beach High School and from Knoxville General Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse.
Survivors include her nephews, Paul Hammill of Palm Bay, Tim Hammill of Vero Beach and William Hammill of Boca Raton; and nieces, Becky Riley and Carolyn Jaroszynski, both of Vero Beach, Helen Penland of Pompano Beach and Cecile Penland-Garcia of Boulder, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Ethel May Hammill Penland.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Helen Catholic Church, Neighborhood Apostolate, 2000 20th St., Vero Beach, FL 32960 or the VNA/Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Jan. 20 at Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Jan. 21 at St. Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach.
Interment will follow in Crestlawn Cemetery, Vero Beach.
