Knights of Columbus announces winners of youth free throw contest

VERO BEACH — The Knights of Columbus from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Council 5629 in Vero Beach held a local competition for the Knights of Columbus International Free Throw Championship on Jan. 6 at St. Helen School gym.

Open to all boys and girls aged 10 to 14, winners progressed through local, district, and state level competitions. International champions, judged on scores from state competitions, were announced by the Knights of Columbus international headquarters in New Haven, CT.

Locally, Mackenzie Ross won the girl’s event, while Christopher Rubiano topped the boy’s event.  

With more than 1.8 million members, the Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic lay organization. It provides members and their families with volunteer opportunities in service to the Catholic Church, the community, families, and young people.

In the past ten years, the Knights of Columbus at all levels of the organization raised and distributed over $1.406 billion in charitable contributions and rendered 653 million man hours in voluntary service.
