SEBASTIAN — You can help protect yourself against the ever growing possibility you will be a victim of identity theft.
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is hosting a free educational workshop designed to help protect participants from identity theft. Called “Identity Theft: What You Need to Know,” this two-hour workshop will be at 9 a.m. on Jan. 19 at Christ the King Lutheran, 1301 Sebastian Blvd. (CR 512) in Sebastian.
Robert Whitlach and Sam Lyons, financial representatives with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans in Indian River County, will present the workshop.
During the workshop, participants will learn what identity theft is, where and how thieves steal identities, the financial effects of this crime, and tips to help protect against identity theft.
Participants will also learn what to do should they fall victim to identity theft.
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission estimates that as many as 8 million Americans were victims of identity theft in 2010.
“Identity theft is a serious, growing concern. This workshop offers practical information and tips to help people avoid falling victim to this crime,” said Errol Reiner, Stewardship Ministry Chair at Christ the King Lutheran.
Whitlach, primary speaker, has been with Thrivent Financial for six years in a variety of positions including financial representative, launch manager, and currently Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC.)
As area CEC, Whitlach works with the financial representatives and Thrivent Financial Chapters to help members give back to the community through events, educational seminars, and fundraising.
Prior to joining Thrivent, Whitlach worked in the human resources field for 15 years.
To register for this free workshop, please call Christ the King at (772) 589-7117 or email [email protected].
The reservation deadline is Jan. 15.
Light refreshments will be served.
(Thrivent Financial recently awarded Christ the King two grants for the Ecumenical Food Pantry. One was a $5,000 grant for the food pantry, presented last fall, and the other is a challenge grant. For every $1 raised by the community through Christ the King, another 50 cents will be contributed to the Ecumenical Food Pantry. The deadline for this has been extended to March 31, 2013.)
