Color Me Rad 5K event March 16

VERO BEACH — The Senior Resource Association (SRA) is pleased to announce the coming of a Color Me Rad (CMR) 5K event to Indian River County on March 16.

“We are very excited to be hosting a ‘Color Me Rad’ event here in Vero Beach to benefit local seniors. This is going to be the largest 5K hosted in Indian River County, and we are happy to be a part of it,” explained Karen Diegl, SRA President and CEO.

The colorful, fun run will be untimed, as the focus is to have fun and get a little exercise. Runners and walkers of all ages will be blasted with color as they make their way through the picturesque community of Pointe West in Vero Beach.

“With recreation a part of the design, the Pointe West community is the perfect venue for this type of event. We are thrilled to participate and to partner with the Senior Resource Association for the first time,” said Karen Mechling, Director of Marketing and Events for Pointe West.

“Like your fifth birthday party, we want this event to be memorable, fun, and colorful. We love to get people involved in fitness who may not come out to your typical 5K,” replied race organizer Scott Crandall.

Waves of 1,000 people will take off every five minutes beginning at 10 a.m. Participants of all ages are welcome to run or walk. At the end of the race, runners/walkers will throw their own bags of color in the air to declare themselves “rad.”

All color is FDA approved cornstarch. About 5,000 pounds of it will be used for the race.

To give a percentage of your registration to SRA and receive a 10% discount on the race, use the promo code: SRA2013.

“We have worked with great charities across the country, and there is nothing more rad than knowing all of this mayhem is also for a good cause,” Crandall explained.

Each participant will receive a “swag bag” including a black Color Me Rad t-shirt, sunglasses, a CMR temporary tattoo, and other sponsor/promotional items.

Following the CMR event, Pointe West and the Indian River County Recreation Department will host their season finale of ‘Screen on the Green.’ This family friendly event features the movie “HOP” shown at sunset in Heritage Park on a 25’ inflatable video screen.

Bring blankets and chairs to enjoy this unique outdoor experience under the stars. Pack a picnic or visit the concession area. Admission is free, but alcohol is prohibited.

“Screen on the Green” is sponsored in part by D.R. Horton, Sebastian River Medical Center, Indian River Mall, and OnSite Realty Group.
