Franklin “Tommy” Eugene Tomlinson, 94, died Jan. 6, 2013, in Vero Beach.
He was born in Montclair, N.J., and lived on the Treasure Coast for 45 years.
He attended Dartmouth College.
He was in the Army Air Corps as an aviation cadet.
After basic training he was assigned to the B-24 “Liberator” and later became the squadron commander of the 454 Group.
He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart and Air Medal with Clusters, Commendation Medal, American Campaign, American Defense Medal, European Campaign, and the World War II Victory Medal.
He was assigned as military air attaché to Denmark.
During this appointment, he was knighted by the King of Denmark as a Knight of Dannebrog for saving the life of King Christian X of Denmark and the royal family.
He retired as a colonel in 1960 and became a stock broker with Dean Witter, formerly Hayden Stone in Miami.
He was a member of the Community Church of Vero Beach.
Survivors include his daughter, Lynn T. Potter, of Landrum, S.C.; son, Robert L. Tomlinson, of Monte Verde; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Blauvelt Tomlinson.
