Benjamin James Sweeney, 72, died Jan. 30, 2012, at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach.
He was born in Lawrence, Mass., and lived in Vero Beach since 1979, coming from his birthplace.
Before retirement, he was a firefighter for the city of Lawrence, Mass. He was an Army veteran. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Vero Beach.
Survivors include his son, James Sargent, of Vero Beach; daughter, Shannon Sweeney, of Massachusetts; and sister, Cathy Hillis, of North Andover, Mass.
