VERO BEACH — Vero Beach Opera opens its 2013 season of opera with “Sentimental Journey: A Resident Artists Concert” on Jan. 13 at 3 p.m. at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center.
The concert takes concert-goers through a “Sentimental Journey” of musical offerings, including: Opera, featuring the 2012-2013 Deborah Voigt/Vero Beach Opera Protégé Dominick Rodriguez, Madison Marie McIntosh, and Evan Ferrar; plus Latin, Jazz, and Broadway favorites, performed by Tania Ortega-Cowan, Roger Rossi, Edmund Nalzaro, and members of the Ft. Pierce Jazz & Blues Society.
Emceed by Tania Ortega-Cowan, selections from the concert include Addio fiorito asil from Madama Butterfly, O mio babbino caro from Gianni Schicci, Schumann’s Ich grolle nicht, You’ll Never Walk Alone, Mozart’s An Chloe, Route 66, Quando, Quando, Quando, It Don’t Mean A Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing,) and, of course, Sentimental Journey.
Dominick Rodriguez, the 2012-2013 Deborah Voigt/Vero Beach Opera Protégé, mentored with opera superstar Deborah Voigt in New York City for a seven month period from November 2011 through May 2012.
He received voice lessons from Ms. Voigt as well as further training from highly regarded vocal, diction, and acting professionals chosen by Ms. Voigt. He was immersed in the rehearsal and production process at the Metropolitan Opera.

The season continues Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. with a World of Opera Concert featuring international artists tenor Luigi Boccia, soprano Maria Aleida, and baritone Nelson Martinez.
On March 24 at 7 p.m., our favorite tenor is back. The Serata D’Amore Concert stars Metropolitan Opera Tenor Marcello Giordani, along with Soprano Jan Cornelius and Soprano Suzanne Vinnik.
Then, the Marcello Giordani Foundation (MGF), in collaboration with and under the sponsorship of the Vero Beach Opera, will hold its 3rd International Vocal Competition March 25-March 28 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, with the Finalists Concert on March 30 at 7 p.m.
All performances and the competition take place at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center.
