Dr. Wendell Early Jacobs, 96, Vero Beach

Dr. Wendell Early Jacobs, 96, died Dec. 30, 2012, at his home.

He was born in Lima, Ohio, and lived in Vero Beach for 15 years, coming from Pompano Beach.

He practiced medicine in Howell, Mich., for 40 years before his retirement in 1980.

He served as chief of staff at McPherson Hospital for several years.

He graduated from Lima High School and received his doctorate from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kirksville, Mo.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Howell.

He was a member of the Lions Club and the Elks Lodge in Howell and was a 32nd degree Mason in the Howell Masonic Lodge F&AM.

He had the first family ski lodge membership at Mount Brighton, Mich.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Mildred Jacobs, of Vero Beach; sons, Ronald Jacobs, of Vero Beach and Wendell Early Jacobs Jr., of Jackson, Mich.; daughters, Karen Salswedel, of Waterford, Mich., Jan K. Mateskon, of Madison, Ala. and Jill J. Meadows, of Michigamme, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Jan. 4 at Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach.

A funeral service will be at 5 p.m. at the funeral home with Dr. G. Timothy Womack officiating.
