VERO BEACH — A 78-year-old man is recovering at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center Monday morning after he was stabbed by his 75-year-old wife, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities arrived at the couple’s home on 14th Avenue in Vero Beach, after the wife called 911 around 9 a.m. Monday.

According to the motive Joan Mead gave to the Sheriff’s Office, she stabbed her husband “due to the victim caring for an out of wedlock child,” the arrest report states. The Sheriff’s Office did not release further details on the motive.
Joan Mead faces charges of attempted felony murder and aggravated battery on a person 65 or older, according to the Sheriff’s Office. She is being held at the county jail without bond.
