Robert West Feagles, 92, died Dec. 25, 2012 at The Place in Vero Beach.
Feagles was born in Fort Wayne, Ind., in 1920, and lived in West Hartford, Conn., and Fishers Island, N.Y, before moving to Vero Beach with his wife Anita in 1992.
He received a degree in mechanical engineering from Georgia Tech before joining the U.S. Army in 1943.
He served in the China Burma India Theatre, and returned home as a captain, partially paralyzed from polio, the effects of which were lifelong, but which he refused to allow to limit him as a lifelong runner and outdoor sportsman.
Feagles earned a graduate degree in international business, and worked for First National City Bank for 25 years, retiring as Head of Domestic and Overseas Personnel.
Following that, he retired from the Travelers’ Insurance Company in Hartford, Connecticut after 10 years as head of personnel.
During his tenure at First National City, he and his wife Anita traveled the world, and after retiring, they continued to travel extensively together.
An avid golfer, Feagles was a member of Bent Pine Golf Club of Vero Beach, and Fishers Island Country Club on Fishers Island, N. Y., where he and Anita kept a home for over 50 years.
He was a member of the Treasure Coast Hunting Club, where he enjoyed quail hunting with his sons and many friends.
He also dedicated time as a volunteer ambulance driver, and was a Guardian ad Litem in Vero Beach for many years.
Feagles is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Anita Marie MacRae Feagles, and daughter Wendy Lee Harwood, of New Britain, Connecticut.
Survivors include his two sons; Patrick MacRae, of Vero Beach, Cuyler MacRae Feagles, of Freeport, Maine; daughter, Priscilla Jane Hammond, of Lyme, Conn.; sister, Beth Day Romulo, of Manila, the Philippines; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the staff of The Place, particularly on the West Wing for their compassionate care for Robert, as well as the VNA Hospice staff for their dedication and consideration.
The family also wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Saver, who cared for Bob and Anita for 20 years, and was always there for them both.
Additionally, we wish to thank Attorney John Moore and staff, whose insightful counsel has been a great source of comfort to the family.
