WABASSO ISLAND — The Environmental Learning Center is offering A Winter Break Campout from Jan. 2–4.
This action packed outdoor program is for 12 to 17 year old students. Participants will paddle kayaks to an island in the Indian River Lagoon where they will camp for 2 nights.
From this base camp, students will be led on an exploration of other islands and winding mangrove tree trails. Activities will include pulling seine nets in the water to study marine life and observing wildlife from birds to marine mammals.
The excursion promises days of fresh air with nights under the stars.
The fee for the complete package is $270/student ($10 discount for ELC members.) It includes kayak rental, gear, tent, meals, snacks, and drinks.
Reservations are necessary. Please call the ELC at (772) 589-5050.
A new financial assistance program named in honor of Maggy Bowman, a founder of the ELC, provides scholarships to students who qualify for the School District’s free or reduced lunch program.
For information on the scholarships, please contact Heather Stapleton at (772) 589-5050 or Heather@DiscoverELC.org.
