King of the Hill tennis tournament in January

VERO BEACH — All tennis enthusiasts: mark your calendar for the 18th Annual King of the Hill Tennis Tournament starting Tuesday, Jan. 15, for seven consecutive weeks, ending Feb. 26, with playtime beginning at 6 p.m.

The tournament, benefiting Youth Guidance, will be held at The Moorings Club in Vero Beach.

General admission is $5; reserved seating is $10.

This yearly competition involves professionals (U.S.P.T.A.) from Indian River and surrounding counties.

The King of the Hill Tennis Tournament originated in January 1996 to give tennis fans the opportunity to enjoy high level doubles competition while providing the tennis professionals the chance to participate in the festivities and enjoy the spirit of competition.

Funds raised will directly support the many children’s programs and services of the Youth Guidance Mentoring & Activities Program.

The mission of Youth Guidance, a United Way partner agency, is to empower Indian River County’s neediest youth through mentoring relationships, and broaden their horizons with educational, cultural, and recreational opportunities.

The agency is actively seeking volunteers to serve as mentors or periodic volunteers to participate in the variety of group mentoring programs and ongoing activities for the unmatched children in the program, or to provide regular help in the office.

Youth Guidance is also looking for partnerships with businesses, service clubs, and church groups to pair with their unmatched children for just one activity a year.

Persons interested in sponsoring the King of the Hill, volunteering, or becoming a mentor may visit www.IRCYouth.com or call (772) 770-5040 for more information.
