WABASSO — In November, the Environmental Learning Center (ELC) hosted its annual golf tournament at the Bent Pine Golf Club in Vero Beach.
The tournament sponsor was the Northern Trust Bank. Head golf professional Pat Gorman and his staff worked diligently to have the golf course in ideal condition for the 94 players.
In keeping with the ELC’s environmental mission, the tournament theme was “Birds of a Feather Golf Together.” Susan Friesell and Susie Kasten were co-chairpersons.
The format of play was a “shamble,” 1 best ball of four with 3 holes thrown out. The men’s division was won by the foursome of Toby Hill, Roger Lynch, Rick McDermott, and Michael Hauser.
Steve Lieberman, George Henninger, Dale Sorensen, and Ralph Paylor were second, while Clay Price, Miles Nogelo, Don Gervais, and Scott Alexander finished third.
The ladies’ division winners were Josie Lieberman, Felicia Lewis, Teryl Viner, and Susie Stickney. Kerstin Murphy, Alice Cole, Marion Kennedy, and Lisa Randall finished in second place. Sue Dobbs, Tooie Dunlap, Nancy Rosner, and Christa Pielenz were third.
The mixed division was won by Steve Warhover, Julie Parker, and Dennis & Ellen Ferro. Fred & Susie Kasten and Jim & Kathleen Poole finished second. Bill & Marlynn Scully and Charlie & Sue Thomas were third.
There were several special contests. For the ladies, Tuny Hill was closest to the “nest” on hole #4, and Kathy Johnson was closest to the pin on hole #5.
For the men, Newby Cooper was closest to the “nest” on hole #4, and Steve Warhover was closest to the pin on hole #13.
Trish Mulvey and Peter Thompson made the longest putts on hole #10, while Tuny Hill and Dale Sorensen were closest to the Bent Pine on hole #18.
The Environmental Learning Center is grateful for the support of all the sponsors and participants. The proceeds are used to underwrite ELC’s educational programs.
